THREE DOSHAS AND FIVE ELEMENTS

Ayurveda, the traditional medical practice of Bharath, has delineated three segments of fundamental regulatory principles of the body, mind, and behavior. These three categories, called doshas and are called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

VATA

Vata consists mostly of the two elements air and space and is generally described as cold, light, dry, rough, flowing, and spacious. Those with the vata dosha are usually described as slim, energetic, and creative. Autumn is known as Vata season.

PITTA

The pitta dosha is based on fire and water. It is commonly called as hot, light, sharp, oily, liquid, and mobile. Summer is known as pitta season for its sunny and hot days.

KAPHA

Kapha is based on earth and water. It can be described as steady, stable, heavy, slow, cold, and soft. Spring season is known as kapha season. Many parts of the world slowly exit hibernation. People with kapha dosha are described as strong, thick-boned, and caring personalities.
